A popular them park in the Ozark Mountains has announced the planned closure of one of its oldest attractions that's been around since 1972.
In a press release, Silver Dollar City announced that "Fire in the Hole" would enter its final season in 2023 and would be replaced by another attraction. "This Grand Finale season of the original Fire In The Hole is paving the way for continued growth and new adventures at Silver Dollar City," said Silver Dollar City President Brad Thomas.
The park opened in 1960 but for a majority of its history, never focused on high-flying thrill rides. "Fire in the Hole" was one of its only roller coaster style attractions offered until the last 20 years when Silver Dollar City began making investments in thrill ride offerings. Still yet, "Fire in the Hole" remained a popular attraction.
The ride takes guests on an old fashioned volunteer fire brigade journey down multiple drops, all while indoors. "Fire in the Hole" certainly didn't have the loops, twists, or drops of more modern day coasters, but the nostalgia was there for long time visitors of the park. "More than 25 million guests have been entertained by the Fire in the Hole adventure since the attraction opened a half century ago," said Thomas.
Silver Dollar City did not offer any hints at what might replace the historic ride but added that "exciting announcements are coming in the near future."
