Make way for the Disney Treasure! The Disney Treasure completed another milestone when it was guided by tugboat down the Ems River from Meyer Werft shipyard toward open water for the first time.
The ship made its way passed waving spectators, who lined the river’s shores to celebrate its departure. During the next few days, the ship will go through a series of rigorous tests, known as sea trials.
The captain of the Disney Treasure, Captain Marco, will step onboard to help oversee the trials and ensure the Disney Treasure is ready for its upcoming transatlantic journey.
The EMS River conveyance is a sight to see when new cruise ships are launched from the Meyer Werft Shipyard in Germany. Ships are often towed backwards to allow for better navigational control through the extremely narrow channel. Often, there is only a few feet of clearance beneath the keel and between the bank of the river and sides of the ship.
