Day 6 of CruiseNReview's ChristmasNTheCaribbean stops in Castries, St. Lucia
Our crew got ready for a big day in Antigua after the party that was Scarlet Night. Luckily, everyone answered the bell and was fired up to see another top tier Caribbean beach.
Blake and I found Ffryes Beach after a recommendation from some folks we met in Barbados. Blake immediately fell in love with it and to this day, he claims its his favorite beach. Even referring to it at times as "his beach." We hated he couldn't be here for his beach bash but he was adamant we go and have a great time.
The beach is another off the beaten path with virtually no development on it, is down a gravel road, and has the water and sand characteristics we love. Calm water, soft sand.
There are rarely any crowds as the cruise lines and tours don't normally stop here. You buy your beach chairs/umbrellas from someone that is just by the side of the road. There is only one restaurant at the end of the beach but the service and facilities are nice. The food and drinks are great too.
At Ffryes Beach, more than 20 people being there at once is a crowd. This is a very relaxing, uncrowded beach.
To get there, we have a friend we made on a previous trip that has a driving service. His name is Motion and he is super friendly and very reliable. I made arrangements with him before the cruise and this excursion plus chairs/umbrellas, and drinks were included in the tour for our ChristmasNTheCaribbean guests. It takes around 20-30 minutes to get to Ffryes Beach from the cruise terminal.
Our crew had another amazing day hanging out in the calm, blue water with drinks and their hand enjoying the views and company.
We had lunch at the restaurant near the beach called Dennis Restaurant. The food was great as well as the service. Everyone in our group enjoyed it. If you decide to go this beach, the restaurant is easy to find as its the only one there. I had the coconut chicken. It was excellent and I highly recommend it.
Blake and I have debated for some time on our favorite beaches. I've always maintained Carlisle Bay is better but I have to admit, Ffryes Beach when the sun is shining is like something out of magazine. The group cruise crew all gave it a 10/10.
Motion picked us up and took us back to the ship before all aboard and we had a wonderful complete day in Antigua.
Back onboard, we had a dinner scheduled at Gunbae. It's Virgin Voyages' Korean barbeque restaurant.
Gunbae is a unique experience like most things on a Virgin cruise. It's family style dining so if you have a small group, you might be seated with other people. Our larger group got a table to ourselves. The staff is very lively, the food is prepared and served in front of you, and the servers will coordinate drinking games and other fun activities during your dining time.
The group cruise crew really enjoyed it. The food was terrific and it was an experience instead of just a normal sit down dinner. Virgin Voyages really sets itself apart with unique dining and the fact that it is all included in your cruise fare is an added bonus. There is more details on dining in earlier live blogs that you can find in our rundown below. To take a look at a sample menu, see the image below:
With so many port days and onboard activities, the group was ready for bed after dinner and we turned in for the night.
